A platform to facilitate the establishment of a community for non-community members to learn and practice sign languages.

Project Overview
I want to increase understanding of and sensitivity to the deaf and hard of hearing community through the project. People will eventually come to appreciate the beauty of the language as a result of having easier access to studying it. I want to use the platform to illustrate how learning sign languages works through the use of stories and animation. In order to assist users to have access to something that can unite communities and never keep communication as a barrier, I would like for something I am making to already exist. Recognizing the challenges experienced by those learning sign languages and looking into measures to reduce the divide between hearing and deaf populations

User Identification & Stakeholders
Through the user identification process, we get to identify the right set of users for the platform. It gives complete clarity to the researchers and designers about the project and what the next research steps are going to be.

Secondary Research
Before moving on to primary research, using the methods of data collecting and analysis, statistics, and gathering evidence for the hypotheses gave me a head start in understanding the topic from a wider perspective along with early validation.

Sign language is a style of communication that conveys meaning using visual means such as emotions, hand gestures, and body movements. People who have trouble hearing or speaking might benefit greatly from sign language.
The translation of these gestures into words or alphabets of existing formally spoken languages is referred to as sign language recognition. Thus, using an algorithm or a model to convert sign language into words can assist bridge the gap between those with hearing or speech impairments and the rest of the world.

Learn sign language if you were born deaf or have been deaf for a significant portion of your life.

Parents of DHH children aren’t fluent in SL.
Deaf children born in hearing families often face delays in language development, so deaf education focuses on language learning.
Primary Research
I conducted primary research in order to comprehend and relate to the deaf population. My primary objective was to validate the major key findings in the secondary research.

User Interviews
Visiting the deaf community served the dual purposes of gaining first-hand insight and entering their ideal environment. I tried to talk to them as well as observe them in order to understand the challenges they had while learning sign language. I received wonderful insights into the same and developed a stronger position in the community.
01

Key Insights

Understanding the users
To analysis the findings and the insights from the discovery phase, I synthesised the user problem into persona, empathy maps and also considering their technical restrictions too.

User Persona
Here, I have explored disable person, their family and friends, abled person, and expert.

Empathy Map
The empathy map was used to grasp what individuals were feeling, what they were saying, and how they behaved in order to comprehend what they saw, thought, felt, and heard, among other things. It helped me narrow some key findings and challenges faced by the users.

Technical Restriction & Analysis
By looking at previous data, primarily price and volume, technical analysis attempts to forecast future price changes. By utilising approaches, it aided me in grasping the product's market potential through analysis of the same, which then guides development of the product.
01
Asking users for their preferred mode of communication and writing in plain English.
02
Use of subtitles or providing with transcripts for video.

03
Use of linear logical layout and breaking up of the content with sub-headings, images, and videos.
Redefine the problem
The major focus on all the problems that were identified in the process of secondary research, primary research, and other insights would be categorised and the ones that are important would be taken forward

Affinity Mapping

Problem Statement

The Non-deaf community needs to understand and learn sign language so that they can explore deaf culture and connect with community.
How might we
01
How might we create a fun and interactive platform for learning sign language?
02
How might we help users stay motivated and connected to the deaf community?
03
How might we encourage users to stay consistent and challenged in their learning process?

Brainstorming & Quick sketches

The brainstorming and quick sketching was doing to come up with ideas that would help in beginning with teh ideation process. There were some of the ideas that got highlighted after the process was completed.
Benchmarking
To keep a standard or marking for your website it is necessary to perform benchmarking in the process. Through benchmarking I have tried to analyse not only the design but also the coding and animation part of the website as well.

User journey with solution
The website would honour the idea of encouraging and motiovating the users from the non-deaf community and keeping them indulged in the concept of learning and understanding the sign language. So, an attempt on mentioning all the process for the same here.

User flows
The user flow was made in order to understand and simplify the flow of the entire website. This displays all the tasks that I have identified and imbibed for my website.

Information Architecture
The goal of information architecture is to classify the content in a clear and understandable way and arrange it according to relations between the content pieces, allowing users to find what they need with less effort. Not applied solely when creating a product from scratch, IA is used in redesign.

Interaction simulation
Here, I would be mentioning all the interactions that are going to be there in the website. These are all the I would also try to inculcate in the coding process too.
